This is a great coaching question.
I have been involved in a lot of pregame speeches.
Some have really inspired me, others have left me baffled and laughing at my coach.
Giving a good pregame speech takes some real talent.
In my opinion a good pregame speech is full of passion, but it also gets your team focused to play.
What do you think makes a good pregame speech?
This question is one that arises very often between people who enjoy the NBA.
It is not an easy question to answer either.
It is obvious that Phil Jackson has been blessed with some of the best players to ever play the game.
In Chicago he had Jordan and Pippen.
In LA he had Kobe and Shaq.
In my opinion he is a great coach. Just having superstars does not win Championships. It takes the right person to coach these egos. Both Michael and Kobe have great respect for Phil Jackson and believed in his ways. He conviced both players to take part in the Triangle offense, which no other team in the league runs.
Phil Jackson missed a big chance to prove he was one of the greatest coaches in history this year. Had Phil won the NBA Championship this year without Shaq, I feel it would have put a big stamp of approval on his coaching reputation. It is unfortuante for his reputation that the team did not win it all, but remarkable how well the team did. The Lakers acquired Pau Gasol which was big, but most of the other players had been developing under Jackson for the last couple years and they really shined this year. The Lakers ended up with the best record in the West, after not even being picked to be top 4. That is pretty impressive.
These are some of the greatest coaching meltdowns I have seen.
I would love to see others!
